Koh Phangan Vegan Food Tour- Your guide to Plant-Based Koh Phangan!
Koh Phangan in southeast Thailand is best known for their monthly Full Moon Party, which is a boisterous and exuberant night-long party thrown during every full moon. These parties attract people from all over the world from all walks of life and are truly out of this world. But there is so much more to Koh Phangan than just the Full Moon party. Koh Phangan boasts an impressive amount of vegan restaurants and yoga retreats that encourage a holistic experience while on the island. Check out my vegan food tour on the infamous party island of Koh Phangan.
I was on Koh Phangan for the Christmas season for 5 days and had a lovely experience. Koh Phangan has a much more relaxed vibe when coming from Koh Samui and especially Bangkok. Although I was on the island at the time of the Full Moon Party, I decided to opt out of it to save my time and money for more exploration of the island.
If you saw my travels from Koh Samui, you would have seen that Thailand offers up many yoga retreats and vegan paradises; Koh Phangan was no exception. As I was only here for 5 days, there are MANY vegan restaurants I was unfortunately not able to visit. But from my personal experiences, here is my list of vegan or vegetarian friendly restaurants on Koh Phangan.
1. Pure Vegan Heaven Koh Phangan
Pure Vegan Heaven has come to be my favorite chain throughout Thailand. The food is spectacular, amazing prices, friendly staff, and nicely styled restaurants. If you haven’t seen my post on the Koh Samui location, go check that out too! The Koh Phangan location was out of this world amazing! The restaurant itself is much nicer than the Koh Samui location, with indoor seating available but plenty of outdoor seating in lush greenery with ponds and tranquility. If you can only visit one vegan restaurant on Koh Phangan, make it this one! Website:https://www.pureveganheaven.com/
2. EAT.CO
EAT.CO has two restaurant locations on Koh Phangan, one in Thong Sala and one in Sri Thanu. We visited the location in Thong Sala, which is situated just a five-minute walk from the ferry pier you’d enter the island on. The menu was fantastic, highlighting both a savory and sweet side of the vegan palate. With very simple, Western-styled offerings this was a great experience! My favorite dish at this spot was their “meaty mushroom wrap”, bringing some incredible meat-like flavors with very simple ingredients. EAT.CO is one not to miss! Website:http://eat.co/
3. Karma Kafe
The Karma Kafe is located in the vegan center of Koh Phangan, Sri Thanu. This is where you’ll find most of the vegan restaurants and yoga studios. I only came to this cafe for a quick post-workout smoothie, but it was quite delicious and refreshing. The vibe of the restaurant itself was nicely styled and seemed to be very popular. The menu looked so good that I was sad to not have time to come here to eat, so it is definitely worth checking out! Website: https://www.facebook.com/karmakafethailand/
4. NORTH Restaurant on the Beach
Although this restaurant is neither vegan or vegetarian, they did have some nice vegetarian offerings! We stayed at an Airbnb within walking distance and were blown away by this cute gem. The owners are incredibly kind and the view during sunset is truly unmatched. They had a homemade veggie burger, gnocchi, hummus and some other vegetarian options. If you are staying near Haad Khom on the north side of the island, I highly recommend giving this place a try! Website: https://www.facebook.com/NORTHRestaurantWinebarBeachPhangan
Veggie Options Overview
Some places we visited for vegan food did not have restaurant names but still had great offerings, as pictured above. It is quite common for local restaurants to have vegan offerings such as tofu fried rice, tofu with noodles, and many other offerings. Many of these dishes are very similar to each other in taste, but delicious nonetheless. Keep in mind that some vegetarian dishes come with egg, so if you are vegan you will need to specify.
As mentioned before, there are many other vegan restaurants on this island that I was not able to visit. A little bit of research on GoogleMaps will show you some great other vegan spots in the Sri Thanu area! Koh Phangan was a truly wonderful experience with amazing food and great beaches! Whether you’re coming for the Full Moon Party or just a separate trip, be sure to check out some of these great restaurants!
