State Tower Bangkok Review: My Quick Take

First: I Stayed in State Tower, Not at lebua

This is probably the most important distinction to make before getting into the review. State Tower is the skyscraper itself, while lebua at State Tower is the luxury hotel located inside the building. There are also private residences throughout the tower, and many of those apartments are rented out to platforms like Airbnb.

I stayed in one of those private apartments on the 51st floor. So although I was technically staying in the same building as lebua, I was not a guest of the hotel and didn’t use any of the hotel facilities or services.

Honestly, that was part of what made the experience so interesting. Bangkok has no shortage of great luxury hotels, but staying in a huge private apartment this high above the city felt completely different.

My Airbnb on the 51st Floor

The Airbnb I stayed in was much larger than many of the other units I had seen listed inside State Tower. It was essentially a double-wide apartment with a huge open floor plan, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living area, a full kitchen, and two private balconies.

The amount of space was one of the first things that stood out to me. It felt much more like a proper apartment than a hotel room, and having a full kitchen and large living area made it easy to actually spend time there rather than just using it as somewhere to sleep.

The interior was nice overall, but it did feel a little worn in places. It also wasn’t quite as clean as I would have liked considering the price, which was probably the biggest downside of the stay.

Still, the interior wasn’t really why I booked this place. The views were.

The Views From the 51st Floor

The views were easily the highlight of the entire experience. During the day, you can see across a huge portion of Bangkok, with the Chao Phraya River below, ICONSIAM across the water, and the city stretching out in every direction.

At the time, this was the highest place I had ever stayed anywhere in the world, which made the experience feel even more memorable. Bangkok is already such an impressive city to see from above, but being 51 floors up really puts the scale of it into perspective.

As good as the daytime views were, sunset and nighttime were even better. Once the sun started going down, the city slowly lit up below us and the whole view completely changed.

At night, we could watch illuminated dinner cruises moving along the Chao Phraya River, see ICONSIAM glowing across the water, and even watch the fountain shows from the balcony. There was always something happening below.

The Two Private Balconies

Having two private balconies made the stay feel much more special. Instead of simply having a great view through a window, we could actually sit outside and enjoy it whenever we wanted.

We spent a lot of time on the balconies during those two nights, especially around sunset. One evening, we bought food and drinks, made our own cocktails in the apartment, and just stayed in to enjoy the view.

It ended up being one of my favorite parts of the entire stay.

State Tower is famous for Sky Bar and the other rooftop bars and restaurants at lebua, and we definitely considered going up. In the end, though, the prices were so high and we had already splurged on the Airbnb, so we decided to skip it.

Honestly, I didn’t regret that decision at all. We had our own food, cocktails, and a completely private view over Bangkok without the crowds or rooftop bar prices.

For me, that was much more enjoyable.

Bangkok at Night

One of my favorite memories from the stay came after going out one night. We didn’t get back to State Tower until around 2 AM, after getting dropped off in a tuk tuk following a fun night out in Bangkok.

We went back up to the apartment and sat outside on the balcony for a while just looking over the city. Bangkok was still glowing below us, with lights stretching seemingly forever in every direction.

It was such a simple moment, but it really stuck with me. There was something pretty amazing about having a night out in Bangkok and then coming back to one of the most iconic buildings in the city and sitting 51 floors above everything in complete privacy.

That was the kind of experience that made the Airbnb feel worth the splurge.

Were the Balconies Scary?

Despite being so high, I never personally felt uncomfortable on the balconies. I’m 6’3″, so I tend to notice railing heights when I’m staying somewhere extremely high up, but I always felt comfortable here.

Obviously, anyone with a serious fear of heights might feel differently. You are very high above Bangkok, but for me, being able to comfortably sit outside and enjoy the view was one of the best parts of the stay.

Is State Tower Bangkok in a Good Location?

I thought the location was good overall. State Tower is in Bang Rak near the Chao Phraya River, with Saphan Taksin BTS and Sathorn Pier nearby, which gives you access to both the BTS and river transportation.

There are also restaurants, street food, and things to see around the surrounding area, so I never found the location inconvenient during our two-night stay.

That said, I wouldn’t choose State Tower purely because of the location. Bangkok has a lot of great neighborhoods, and depending on what you want to do, there are areas that may be more convenient for nightlife, shopping, or certain attractions.

For me, the reason to book State Tower is the building itself and the views. The location is good enough, but it isn’t what makes the stay special.

What I Didn’t Love About the Airbnb

The biggest negative during my stay was the cleanliness. The apartment wasn’t terrible by any means, but it could have been cleaner, especially considering the price.

Some parts of the interior also felt a little worn. At around $230 USD per night at current prices, there are a lot of excellent places to stay in Bangkok, including some very polished luxury hotels.

If immaculate interiors, daily housekeeping, and full hotel service are your main priorities, this probably isn’t the best use of your money and you should take a look into the lebua at State Tower hotel. You’re really paying for the space, privacy, balconies, and the experience of staying inside State Tower.

For me, those things made up for the flaws.

Is State Tower Bangkok Worth It?

I think it is for the right traveler. At around $230 USD per night for the Airbnb I stayed in, this is definitely a splurge by Bangkok standards, especially when you consider how much great accommodation you can get in the city for less.

But State Tower offers something very specific. You’re staying 51 floors above Bangkok in one of the city’s most recognizable skyscrapers, with huge private balconies and incredible views over the Chao Phraya River.

That was what made the stay feel worth it to me.

• The apartment: Huge and comfortable, although somewhat worn and not as clean as I would have liked.
• The views: Incredible. Easily the biggest reason to stay here.
• The balconies: One of the best parts of the entire experience.
• The location: Good, but not the main reason I would choose this stay.
• Value for money: Fair. You can get more polished luxury elsewhere in Bangkok, but very few stays offer this particular experience.
• Would I stay again? Yes, although I also think this could easily be a one-time experience.

What to Know Before Booking an Airbnb in State Tower

If you’re considering an Airbnb in State Tower, I’d pay close attention to the specific unit you’re booking. Apartments vary quite a bit in size, floor level, layout, and condition, so the experience won’t necessarily be identical to mine. I’d especially look for a unit with a private balcony and read recent reviews about cleanliness. Also remember that staying in a private residence does not automatically give you access to lebua’s hotel amenities.

Who Is This Stay Best For?

I think staying in a private apartment at State Tower is best for people who want something different from a typical Bangkok hotel. It would be especially good for couples, first-time visitors, travelers who love skyline views, and anyone looking for something unique and iconic.

Couples in particular would probably enjoy this type of stay. Having your own balcony for sunset drinks or dinner feels much more private than going to a rooftop bar, and the views make even a simple night in feel special.

I also think first-time visitors would appreciate it because you get such a dramatic introduction to the scale of Bangkok. Seeing the Chao Phraya River and the city stretching out below you from the 51st floor is a pretty memorable way to experience the city.

If you care more about hotel service, amenities, pools, or a perfectly polished room, I would probably choose a traditional luxury hotel instead.

Would I Stay at State Tower Bangkok Again?

Yes, I would, although I also think this could be a one-and-done type of stay.

Not because I didn’t enjoy it. I absolutely did. Bangkok just has so many incredible hotels and unique places to stay that I’m always interested in trying somewhere new.

Still, I’m really glad I stayed here. The experience was incredibly memorable, and the views are still what I think about most when I remember those two nights.

Watching the sunset from the balcony, seeing the Chao Phraya River light up at night, and coming back at 2 AM to sit outside high above Bangkok are the things that made this stay special.

If you want perfect five-star luxury, I would look elsewhere. But if you want one of the most unique high-rise stays in Bangkok, State Tower is absolutely worth considering.
