After a busy month in the bustling city of Chiang Mai, I craved peace and nature. So, I booked this riverside homestay in Chiang Dao, a place that had long been on my list due to its beautiful natural setting.
The first thing I noticed upon arrival was just how serene and beautiful the place was. Nestled deep in the northern Thai jungle, it still managed to maintain a touch of sophistication with the design and services. The property took full advantage of its surroundings, blending nature with high-end amenities like a mini bar, coffee setup, and even a dinner service that could be enjoyed right in the comfort of your home on your private terrace.
I knew I was about to enjoy three days of total bliss, and I wasn’t wrong.

About the Stay: Design, Comfort & Amenities
This riverside homestay was all about relaxation and connection to nature. The setting alone was enough to make it special, but the well-thought-out design really helped it stand out.
Workability & WiFi
- While this is not a digital nomad hotspot by any means, the place is great for a short retreat. If you’re looking to escape the grind for a few days, it’s perfect. If you are coming from Chiang Mai, it is only 1 1/2 hour drive which is a perfect long weekend escape.
- WiFi is functional but don’t expect lightning speed—it’s more about disconnecting and enjoying your surroundings. This is a great place for writing and creative work, if you plan to work at all.
Outdoor Features
- The property is set right by the water, with a hammock over the creek for ultimate relaxation. You also have a large terrace with lots of seating options and places to enjoy the outdoor spaces.
- A fire pit is set up for cozy evenings by the water, and the movie theater setup offers a great option for indoor entertainment.
- Multiple sitting areas let you enjoy the view and tranquility in different ways.
Comfort & Design
- The design strikes a perfect balance between luxury and nature. The minimalist aesthetic blends seamlessly with the lush environment.
- With access to high end wines, delicious fresh coffee drinks, a fantastic included breakfast and more, this stay has everything you need for a comfortable stay in nature without sacrificing modern conveniences.
- Comfortable beds, quality linens, and cozy living areas add to the feeling of being pampered while still immersed in nature.
The Location & Nearby Attractions
Located in the jungles of Chiang Dao, this area is perfect for those wanting to escape the crowds. The peaceful environment offers a break from busy tourist spots but still has access to some great local activities.
Nearby Activities
- I highly recommend doing a 4×4 jeep tour provided by Hi Land Forest View, which takes you to some stunning waterfalls and offers incredible viewpoints of Doi Luang Chiang Dao. You’ll also stop for lunch along the way. The tour offers a great way to experience the region and is perfect for those who want adventure without straying too far from your stay. You can also do the ATV tour instead.
- The rest of the activities in Chiang Dao are within a 30 minute drive maximum from the stay, but it is along a long road that winds every few meters so be prepared for that.
Food & Dining
- On-site dining options were available, including the ability to have dinner served at the homestay. I didn’t have to leave to enjoy fantastic meals and they were accommodating for vegetarian options as well. Breakfast is included in the price as well and is fantastic.
- For local restaurants, there are limited options in the area, but the main appeal of this place is definitely the isolation and tranquility.
- There is a small kitchenette in the homestay so if you prefer to cook your own meals you can bring your own food with you.
Getting There & Accessibility
- The property is a bit out of the way, and the drive involves curved, hilly roads. If you plan to explore the area more, this could be a bit tedious for some, but I personally didn’t mind.
- The road trip to the property also forces you to slow down and really connect with the natural surroundings, which I appreciated.
My Experience: Pros & Cons
What I Loved
- The setting was amazing. The riverside location and access to nature provided the ultimate relaxation.
Overwater hammock—one of my favorite spots to spend a few hours reading and soaking in the view.
Movie theater setup—perfect for cozy nights in.
The fire pit offered a great way to spend evenings by the water.
Personalized service, from coffee setup to dinner service, made it feel like a luxury stay in the jungle.
What Could Be Improved
- Not 100% private—while the other property nearby wasn’t noticeable, it may be a factor for some if there is a larger group at the other house on property.
- Higher price point compared to other homestays in the area.
- Driving to the property is a bit challenging, especially if you plan to explore other parts of Chiang Dao.
Final Thoughts: Would I Stay Here Again?
Yes, I would definitely come back to this Chiang Dao Riverside Homestay. The natural beauty, peaceful surroundings, and thoughtful amenities made this a perfect escape for a few days of rest and relaxation.
This place is ideal for those looking to disconnect and recharge—whether you’re on a short getaway or just want to enjoy a nature-filled retreat. You could actually spend more time here if you really wanted to get away from people but still have a place to do work since the wifi is good and there is a full kitchenette setup.
